Family:  Water Lily ( Nymphaeaceae )

Life Span:  Perennial

Leaves:  Waxy leaves can be oval, round or heart-shaped, 4-12" long with very long underwater stalks.

Flowers:  Waxy and cup-shaped yellow flowers. Normally come with 9 low sepals and numerous stamens.

Fruits:  Egg-shaped fruits is 1" diameter.

Habitat:  Mountane and subalpine ponds, lakes and calmer streams.

Comments:  Beavers and muskrats eat its yellow roots.
